Recorder

Welcome to the Black Belt Recorder Program!

Students are learning to play the recorder using the fun and engaging Black Belt Recorder program. As they progress through different “belt” levels—just like in martial arts—they develop musical skills step-by-step in an encouraging and structured way.

Learning to play the recorder benefits students in many ways:

  • Boosts brain development by improving memory, focus, and listening skills.

  • Enhances fine motor skills through finger coordination and breath control.

  • Builds music literacy by teaching students to read and interpret music independently.

Books and quality recorders for the program can be purchased here: Black Belt Recorder Starter Pack.

Hello Jack! It’s on the Recorder page under the Yellow Belt link. It’s the last video on that page.

I teach students from Year 3 upwards in music class. Students are offered placement in Recorder Band by invitation and attend lunchtime rehearsals from Year 4 onwards.
